THINGS TO KNOW

Daily folders should be checked every night and sent back to school every day. The folder may contain homework, notes or finished/graded work to be kept at home. Any important information or notes from home should be placed in the folder. (It is the student's responsibility in first grade to empty their book bag and folder everyday. In 1st grade-the teachers will not check folders for your child.)

Outdoor Recess: We make every attempt to play outside each day. Please dress accordingly. Students will only be permitted to play on the playground equipment if they are wearing sneakers. We work hard and we play hard. We get dirty sometimes! Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather Hot or Cold!

Homework is an extension of what we learn in school. We encourage you to help your child develop positive habits and a sense of responsibility. We hope that you will support your child in following through on tasks that are given to him/her.

Dismissal: Any changes in your child's dismissal schedule must be noted in writing and sent to the teacher and the main office. If you are at work, and need to change plans during the day please call the main office and they will contact me 732-821-7478. Please do not leave any changes to your child's dismissal procedure on our voice mail or email.

First Grade Curriculum

The South Brunswick School District Curriculum being taught at the first grade level integrates the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards (NJCCCS) with developmentally-appropriate concepts. We teach for deep understanding of the "big ideas" in each content area, and we encourage students to wonder about the "essential questions."

Technology is integrated into instruction in meaningful ways. Students and teachers use digital tools and information to solve problems individually and collaboratively to create and communicate knowledge. (NJCCCS 8.1)
